Frequently Asked Questions

Helpful answers to common questions about your trip to Wallace Lake Lodge & Outposts

What time are flights scheduled for outpost trips?

Flights typically take place in the morning from 7:00 am – 11:00 am. Sometimes a later flight can be arranged to help with travel plans or arrivals.

If I am flying commercially into Winnipeg, will my outpost flight be the same day?

Yes, it can be. Depending on what time you arrive in Winnipeg, we can arrange a shuttle to bring you directly to the float base and fly you out the same day. If you arrive later, an overnight hotel stay can be arranged and you will be on a morning flight to the outpost.

I’ve never flown out of Lac du Bonnet before — any tips?

The Lac du Bonnet float base is one of the easiest to access for any outpost trip. It’s located about 70 minutes east of Winnipeg. If you are driving, we offer safe parking for your vehicle. If you are flying into Winnipeg, our shuttle can transfer you directly to Lac du Bonnet with ease.

We’ve never fished any of your lakes — can you offer some help?

Absolutely. With any of our trips, we provide a detailed lake map showing fishing hotspots, recommended travel routes, and hazards to watch for while on the water.

How many people can you accommodate at your lodge and outposts?

The main lodge has 3 guest cabins with a total capacity of 16 guests. Each outpost can accommodate between 4–8 guests.

What is your operating season?

Our season typically begins around May 15 and runs through Canadian Thanksgiving in mid-October.

When is the ice typically out in the spring?

Ice has left as early as April 19 and as late as May 13. On average, ice-out is around May 3. Ice thickness can reach up to 3.5 feet, and weather conditions determine how quickly it melts.

When is the best time for Walleye & Pike fishing?

Every month of the season offers something different:

  • Late May – early June: Walleye spawn and fast action
  • June through August: Trophy Northern Pike and excellent numbers
  • Late August – September: Warm days, cool nights, fall colors
  • Fly fishing: Late June through early July (mayfly hatch)
Can I order my outpost groceries ahead of time?

Yes. Complete the grocery order form and return it to us at least 2 weeks prior to your trip. Your groceries will be ready at the float base when you arrive.

Do you supply bait?

Outpost guests can pre-order bait before flying out, and it will be packaged and ready upon arrival. Guests staying at the main lodge can purchase frozen minnows from the tackle shop.

I have a CPAP machine — will I be able to use it?

Yes. All cabins have sufficient power, whether solar or generator-based, to run multiple CPAP machines overnight. Please let us know in advance if you have special medical needs.

What is your cancellation policy?

All deposits are non-refundable. If you are unable to travel during your booked week, we may, at our discretion, transfer your credit to another available date of equal or similar value.

I’d like to book again for next year — what are the steps?

We’re glad you had a great trip. Please contact us as soon as possible to secure your preferred dates, as many groups rebook year after year.
