Pictograph
Let Wallace lake lodge assist you in seeing this rare & incredible sight.
There are pictographs found in the boreal forests and rocky shorelines of eastern Manitoba, a region rich in history and culture. These pictographs are ancient rock paintings, often created using red ochre (iron oxide mixed with a binder like animal fat or water). They date back anywhere from 500 to over 1,000 years, though some sites may be much older, potentially 3,000 years or more.
Pictographs are often found on exposed cliffs, rocky outcrops, or near water bodies, lakes and rivers that were significant travel and spiritual routes. Each symbol & artwork has a difference significance, whether it be animals, human figures, mythical beings or abstract shapes.
